Police Commissionerate building to be ready by next month

Construction of the Office of Commissioner of Police along the Tiruchi-Pudukottai National Highway at Subramaniapuram is nearing completion.

The two-storey building coming up opposite the Central Prison entrance is expected to be readied by December. The Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation, a State undertaking, has been entrusted with the task of constructing the Police Commissionerate building on a total area of 3,000 square feet at a cost of Rs. 3 crore.

The ground floor will house the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Stores and Cash section, while the Police Commissioner’s chamber, Conference hall, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Section), Intelligence Section office and Administrative section will all be situated on the first floor.

The second floor will house the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) and Finger Print Bureau. The City Crime Records Bureau, Anti Vice Squad unit, Central Crime Branch and Computer rooms will be in the same building.

Official sources said the building work was over, and the first coat of painting has been given. Nearly 90 per cent of the work was over, the sources said adding that the approach road work would also be completed soon. The authorities expect the telephone and power connections to be given soon to the new building that will also be equipped with an emergency generator set.

District Police Office and the office of the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, are situated along the Pudukottai Road.
